Narad Harvesting is committed to workers receiving pay and employment conditions in accordance with the applicable Australian workplace laws, modern awards and employment arrangements.
Pay rates in agriculture and horticulture aren't necessarily the same for every worker or every job. The applicable rate can depend on the industry, type of work, employee classification, employment type, hours worked and the modern award or other industrial instrument covering the role.
For many of the horticultural roles undertaken by our teams, the Horticulture Award 2020 may apply. Work within the wine grape and wine industry may instead fall within the Wine Industry Award 2020.
The applicable award and classification should always be determined based on the actual work being performed.
The Horticulture Award 2020 covers many employees working within Australia's horticulture industry.
This can include work associated with:
The award also contains provisions covering minimum rates, allowances, overtime, penalty rates, casual employment and other employment conditions.
The Wine Industry Award 2020 can apply to employees working within the wine industry, including work associated with commercial wine grape vineyards.
This can include:
The award also covers applicable classifications, minimum rates and employment conditions.
Where workers are paid an hourly rate, their minimum rate depends on factors including the applicable award, classification and employment type.
Minimum award rates are reviewed and can change, so current rates should always be checked against the latest Fair Work information rather than relying on an old rate published on a website.
Piece rates can be used for eligible work where permitted by the applicable award.
Under the Horticulture Award, piecework arrangements are subject to specific rules, including requirements around the piecework arrangement and a minimum wage guarantee.
A piece rate does not remove a worker's underlying workplace entitlements.
Depending on the applicable award and circumstances, workers may also be entitled to additional payments or conditions relating to matters such as:
The exact entitlements depend on the worker's employment arrangement and the industrial instrument covering the work.
Award rates and conditions can change.
For the most current information, workers and growers should refer directly to the Fair Work Ombudsman and the applicable modern award.
Narad Harvesting works to apply the appropriate pay arrangements based on the work being performed and the requirements that apply at the time.
